Flo's Seniors was created based on the knowledge that there are seniors and family members who require assistance in accessing resources within our community.

While assisting with the care of my parents, I found that there were so many resources available in the community yet many in the Afro-Caribbean community are not aware of these resources. When my mother (Florence) passed away, I knew it was my time to give back to our community.

CONNECT AND CARE

Our Calling Initiative for Seniors

We understand the importance of human connection, especially for our senior community members. Many seniors often experience feelings of isolation and loneliness, which can have a significant impact on their overall well-being. That's why we have established our Calling Initiative, a program where dedicated volunteers regularly reach out to seniors, providing them with a friendly voice, a listening ear, and a sense of companionship.

  • The primary mission of our Calling Initiative is to combat social isolation among seniors by fostering meaningful connections and providing emotional support. We believe that everyone deserves to feel valued, heard, and cared for, regardless of age. Through our dedicated team of compassionate volunteers, we aim to make a positive difference in the lives of seniors by ensuring they have someone to talk to and confide in.

  • Our Calling Initiative operates on a simple yet powerful principle: regular check-ins and conversations that nurture genuine connections. Here's how it works:

    1. Volunteer Recruitment: We actively recruit compassionate individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of seniors. Our volunteers undergo training to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills to engage in empathetic and meaningful conversations.

    2. Matching Process: We carefully match volunteers with seniors based on shared interests, hobbies, and preferences whenever possible. This personalized approach fosters a deeper connection and facilitates more meaningful conversations.

    3. Regular Check-ins: Our volunteers make regular phone calls to seniors, providing a consistent presence in their lives. The frequency of the calls can be customized based on the preferences and needs of both the volunteer and the senior. These calls serve as a friendly check-in, offering emotional support, companionship, and an opportunity to share stories and experiences.

    4. Active Listening and Support: Our volunteers are trained to be active listeners, offering empathy, understanding, and support during conversations. They engage in friendly and uplifting discussions, ensuring that seniors feel heard, valued, and connected to the community.

  • The success of our Calling Initiative relies on the support of compassionate individuals like you. Here are a few ways you can contribute:

    1. Volunteer: Join our team of dedicated volunteers and make a difference in the lives of seniors by offering your time and companionship through regular phone calls.

    2. Spread the Word: Help us reach more seniors who may benefit from our Calling Initiative by sharing information about our program within your community and networks.

    3. Donate: Your financial contributions will enable us to expand and enhance our Calling Initiative, ensuring that we can reach and support as many seniors as possible.
